Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has come up with a unique resolution to the Mohamed Salah contract situation, according to TBR Football. Salah reportedly wants an extension of three years while the club is willing to offer only two. The Egyptian has been in fine nick this season, and Liverpool will want to keep him.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Up Front podcast, Souness has reportedly come up with a solution to the situation, which can benefit everyone. He said that the club should offer Salah a contract with breaks between years one and two as well as insurance of income in case he gets injured.
“I’ve said this already, that there’s a million ways to cut this cake. How about this as a scenario? Money will be important to him, because when you’re a football player, you know in terms of living a normal life, football life is a very short life. So if he’s worried about, and there’ll be one thing on his mind that he worries about, I’ll sign a three-year deal, right?" Souness asked.
"I want the option, after the first year and the second year, to leave, but if I get injured in the first year, I want money for three years. You’re safeguarding his income for three years, but he also has a door open to leave if he wants to leave. If I was Liverpool, I would take that,” he added.
Mohamed Salah is one of the most valuable players in the English Premier League
Salah, meanwhile, is one of the most valuable players in the EPL at the moment, and earns £350,000-a-week, according to Capology. The Egyptian, however, will turn 33 next June, and it will be a challenge for Liverpool to continue offering him such terms to him.
Salah has been in excellent form this season, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances in the league. He has also bagged six assists and proved his worth to new manager Arne Slot.
Liverpool will take on Manchester City at home on Sunday, December 1, and Salah will hope to get on the scoresheet.
