Martinez appeared on COPE's El Partizado show, where he addressed Cristiano Ronaldo's international future and contributions. The Spaniard pointed out that the Al-Nassr man stands out for his talent, experience, and commitment to the team, and these factors increase his relevance to the team.

"The goodbye of a legend always comes of football. When a player sees that he can no longer give what gave to the team. Players who are smart are the ones who have greater longevity. In the case of Cristiano we have seen that when play the opposite note it. We always make an assessment of all players after each match. We value talent, experience and commitment. You have to always be very well in all three and Ronaldo is exemplary".

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the semi-final win over Germany and in the final against Spain before he had to be taken off. The former Real Madrid and Manchester United man took his tally for the Portuguese national team to 138 goals in 221 appearances.

Now 40, Ronaldo is in the final days of his professional career, a fact even he can not deny. Barring any injuries, he will likely be part of the Portugal squad at the FIFA World Cup next summer, where he will look for a first winner's medal in his sixth edition of the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes passionate Lamine Yamal plea

Portugal and Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a plea aimed at the media over their treatment of Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old faced off with Ronaldo's Portugal and came out second-best in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday.

Speaking after the Nations League final, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner pleaded that people leave Yamal alone due to his age. He predicted that the phenomenon will win a huge number of individual and collective accolades, but asked for calm from him.

“Lamine is going to win a lot of collective and individual titles. He’s a phenomenon. He’ll have a long career and he’s going to win a lot of Nations Leagues. He’s 17... please, leave him alone. I have to ask you to let him be. He has to be calm."

Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates denied Lamine Yamal the opportunity to add another trophy to his already impressive cabinet. The teenager is among the frontrunners for the Ballon d'Or this year, having made the top ten last year.
