Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has provided his honest thoughts on the Premier League title race, naming Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea as his club's competitors this season.
The Reds, who finished third with 82 points last season, extended their lead over Manchester City to 11 points after a 2-0 home league win last Sunday. They are atop the 2024-25 Premier League standings with 34 points from 13 matches.
Ahead of Liverpool's league contest at Newcastle United this Wednesday (December 4), Slot was asked to opine on the Reds' league position. The Dutchman replied (h/t Liverpool Echo):
"Gary Neville had a different opinion about us at the start of the season! I've said many times already, we don't look at it like this. We know we have a difficult week coming up. I think it's even harder going away to Newcastle. We're not even halfway through the season yet."
Slot, who guided Feyenoord to a league title in 2023, continued:
"It's not that special for us to be on top of the Premier League or the Champions League. This club, this team, these players are used to be top of the league and competing for every trophy. They have experienced this."
Naming Liverpool's three main title challengers, Slot elaborated:
"They also know it's a long season and to win the league against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and City – because I see those three as our main competitors – that you have to be on top of our game for 10 months. We've seen the quality of the three already and know we have to stay on top of our game. We now face Newcastle who beat Arsenal and Chelsea at home, and drew with City."
Arsenal are second in the Premier League standings with 25 points from 13 matches. Chelsea are third with 25 points and City are fifth with 23 points.
Liverpool aiming to sign Feyenoord attacker
According to French magazine La Gazette de Funnec, Liverpool are interested in signing Anis Hadj Moussa from Eredivisie side Feyenoord. They have identified the left-footed winger as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Hadj Moussa, 22, has registered four goals in 14 total matches for Feyenoord since arriving for around £1.5 million from Patro Eisden earlier this summer.
Last campaign, the three-cap Algeria international turned a lot of heads with his fine outings while on loan at Vitesse Arnhem. He found the back of the net two times and contributed two assists in 15 overall appearances for Vitesse.
