Neymar – The skilled 19 y/o is touted to be the next big thing in football.
If reports from The National is to be believed, FC Barcelona have already paid a sum of €10 million for the Brazilian attacker, and Barca can buy him anytime until 2014 (when Neymar‘s contract expires). If Santos withdraw at any period till then, they are obliged to pay Barca €20 million.
Barcelona have been linked with the skilled forward time and again, with Santos maintaining their refusal towards his sale, but this time it seems as if things might just click. Earlier, there were rumors of Barca president Sandro Rosell depositing €60 million to Santos and blocking the transfer of Neymar to Real Madrid. Those were downplayed by Rosell himself, when he said that such an amount was, “ridiculous for such a young forward.”
Furthermore, there are also reports that Neymar has agreed personal terms with Barca fueling speculations that the transfer might just take place, come this winter window. However in a press conference earlier today, Neymar da Silva, the attacker’s father, said, “Neymar to Barca is a very interesting option. But, he needs to grow and will stay at Santos till 2014.” Barcelona have also stated that they are not going to spend anything this January, as they have already spent well over their €45 million transfer allotment over heavy-duty transfers of Chilean attacker Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal and ex-Barca youth midfielder, Cesc Fabregas.
The question now is: Will Neymar come to Barcelona?
Many a sports guru and veterans are of the opinion that the skilled player will fit beautifully into Barca’s tiki-taka system and will adapt to their unique style of play with ease. If this transfer does happen, we would be looking at an utopian team of talented youngsters that might just be better than Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team.
Is Neymar the potential substitute for David Villa? If yes, how much are Barca willing to spend on such a young player? Will this transfer happen soon? Only time will tell.
