Nick Powell was voted as the greatest Crewe Alexandra player by the fans of the club.

Celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Football Legue, the 20 year emerged as the people’s favourite accumulating 34% of the total votes leaving the likes of Dean Ashton (24%), David Platt (21%) and Danny Murphy (15%) behind.

It is astonishing to see such a young prospect winning the prestigious honour ahead of club veterans who have already finished their careers in the club. Powell who featured in 55 senior games, played for the Crewe’s since he was five years old.

The influence he had during his tenure at the club is clearly reflected in his feats . During the 2012 season, Powell guided the League Two side to promotion by bagging 16 goals in 45 appearances. His stunning decisive strike in the Wembley play-off final sealed their promotion to the League One. His efforts have been recognised by the supporters which is clearly reflected on their decision to crown him as their best player ever.

He was named the Football League Apprentice Player of the Year and both Crewe Alexandra’s Player and Young Player of the Year in the same year when he was just 18 years old.

Powell moved to Manchester United in the 2012/13 season. With such a good resume in his early days as a player, we can surely expect a bright future ahead of him in the Theatre of Dreams.
