Powell has been sensational for Wigan Athletic

Nick Powell needs no introduction. The youngster announced himself to the world with a sensational strike against Wigan Athletic last season, bringing back memories of a young Paul Scholes. The 19-year-old has gone out on loan this season to the very club he scored against and has made a name for himself at Wigan.

Powell was bought by Sir Alex Ferguson for around £6 million from Crewe Alexander, and his performance this season is showing just why Sir Alex splashed so much cash for a then-unknown teenager. The player is gifted with exceptional technical ability and is extremely versatile as he can operate as a central midfielder and a forward.

Powell has scored 6 times for Wigan this season and created history when he became the first Lactic’s player to score a brace in the Europa league. David Moyes has stated that he is extremely impressed with the player, which is a sign of Powell getting first team football when he returns to Manchester United.

David Moyes is well known for his work on young players and Powell is sure to flourish under him. Adnan Januzaj has made a name for himself this year and has already broken into Moyes’s first team.

Manchester United’s midfield is currently extremely vulnerable, with Marouane Fellani looking lackluster with each passing day and Tom Cleverley a perfect example of how a midfielder shouldn’t be. Powell’s inclusion would instantly revive the dying midfield of Manchester United. The England international is the solution to the lack of goals and creativity in the Red Devils’s midfield department and could easily become a vital member of the squad.

Powell already has Champions League experience and should have no problems playing against Europe’s other teams. United have a lot of deadwood in the form of Anderson and Ashley Young so securing a place should not be hard for Powell.

Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs made their debuts at young ages and have gone on to make history for their clubs. Powell has a style of play that is similar to Scholes’s and can become a Manchester United legend just like the ‘Ginger Haired Magician’.

Tom Cleverley was once named as a successor to Scholes but has not done anything to justify that title. The 24-year-old has just scored 2 goals for the club and performed miserably in yesterday’s match against Tottenham. Powell has already scored more goals then Cleverley, who was also loaned to Wigan, and is sure to displace him from the first team once he returns from his loan.

Many young players have failed to shine at Manchester United but Powell certainly looks like a keeper.

Powell is only scratching the surface and is tempted to join the likes of Jack Wilshere and Luke Shaw as the future of England football. This young Red Devil is surely one to watch out for in the coming season.
