What's the story?

In discouraging news for Real Madrid fans across the globe, there are currently no Los Blancos players in the first 230 rankings of players in the race for the 2018 Golden Shoe award.

In case you didn't know...

The current season marks Real Madrid's first campaign without their star talisman Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portuguese has moved away from the Bernabeu to join Serie A giants Juventus over the summer.

The Bianconeri star was often at the top of the Golden Shoe charts during his time with the reigning European champions, but his departure this summer appears to have had an adverse effect on the team.

After having registered one of their worst starts to a season, including a humiliating Clasico defeat to rivals Barcelona, the Madrid club sacked then-boss Julen Lopetegui and has since replaced him with Santiago Solari.

The heart of the matter

According to the rankings for the European Golden Boot award, there are presently no Real Madrid players in the first 230 rankings for the 2018 edition of the prize.

The rankings are currently led by Brazilian Liliu who plays for Estonian club Nomme Kalju with 30 points.

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe leads the rankings in Europe's top five leagues with 12 goals while Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is close with 10 Serie A goals.

Real Madrid's present La Liga top-scorer is Karim Benzema who has scored five goals so far. The striker is ranked at 233 with ten points. The second highest scorer for the Los Blancos side is the defender and captain Sergio Ramos, who has four goals and eight points so far.

What's next?

Real Madrid seems to be in the midst of some serious attacking crisis and looks set to suffer if the problems are not immediately rectified.

Solari's men are scheduled to face Mellila in a Copa del Rey clash tonight.
