Oldham fan stabbed after FA Cup tie against Liverpool

Liverpool v Oldham Athletic - FA Cup Third Round

Oldham fan Mark Gregory was stabbed outside a Liverpool pub Flat Iron just minutes after his side bowed out of the FA Cup with a 0-2 loss to Liverpool at Anfield. Mark’s wife took to Facebook to inform people that her husband had been stabbed five times & that an operation had been performed to repair the damage caused by internal bleeding.

The incident came to light after the victim flagged an ambulance around 17:15 BST. The victim is believed to be shifted to Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he is receiving treatment for a stab wound. A police spokesman has said that the fan is out of danger & refusing to talk to detectives about the incident.

Jamie Harrison, another Oldham fan who travelled to the game, happened to pass by just after the incident had happened.

He said: “The atmosphere had been fine all through the match and just outside the ground. I was in The Flat Iron pub and came out to see it all happening about 500 yards down the street. I saw him getting put into the back of an ambulance with a lot of wadding on his back. There was a helicopter overhead and two or three ambulances around with a lot of police in the area. I feel really lucky – if I had walked out the pub five minutes earlier I would have walked into the trouble, and it looked really nasty.”
