Olivier Giroud is not good enough for Arsenal

 Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud (R) of Arsenal misses a chance against Manchester United

Giroud is not good enough. There it is I said it. I’m sorry, but this is the truth. I would just love to see him proving all of us wrong (and I hope that he does). I love his dedication, and I know he tries very hard to make the difference but he is not able to. I am someone who cares for him a lot but I care more for the team than about an individual.

He slows us down, he can’t dribble and his finishing is just not good enough, even though he has brilliant technique in him like his shot in the last minute against Everton which hit the crossbar or his assist to Podolski’s goal in the Champions League against Montpellier and to Gibbs against Swansea in the FA Cup.

I know most of you would say that without his contributions we would not have been where we are right now and I agree with you but whenever he gets the ball just outside the box, he always tries to make a one touch play with the midfielders. I just wish that he would receive the ball and instead of always looking to pass it back to our midfielders, do the unexpected, turn with the ball and have a go – doesn’t matter if it is on target or not but it will at least give the centre back something to think about. Spin the defender and have a go at the target just like all good target strikers do. A centre forward shouldn’t play with his back to goal so much.

Or maybe he is just not the right striker for us if we want to be competing for trophies in the years to come because he just does not stand up in big matches. He never does. He misses a lot especially in big matches where a goal is very important.

The Question arises – Is Giroud good? Yes.

Is Giroud good enough for Arsenal? Yes.

Can he be the main striker at Arsenal? No.

He can be used in a 4-4-2 formation or either as a backup. It’s disappointing that we didn’t get a striker in the January transfer window, but this summer he has to be replaced. Not back up, a replacement. Again, I’m sorry. I don’t want to abuse any of our players but I had to say FML, that was such a frustrating result!

We’re still a point off the top though. I don’t remember Anelka, Kanu and Henry playing backward and holding the ball up linking up play, when we had Dennis Bergkamp spraying the passes. I honestly don’t remember the back to goal that much last season. I cannot quit dreaming of a quick two footed striker banging in goals at will (like Henry, RvP) with Ozil and Cazorla behind him to supply him with through balls while he makes off the ball runs.
