Arsenal‘s Olivier Giroud has warned Luis Suarez that he won’t give up his place without a fight. The Gunners had their second bid rejected for the Liverpool striker.

After a sluggish start to his Arsenal career, the 26-year-old established himself as the club’s first-choice central striker, scoring 17 goals in his first season. But his place in the team will come under serious threat if Suarez arrives at the Emirates Stadium.

Giroud, who has scored six goals in three pre-season matches so far this summer, said: ‘I’m not worried. I have heard a lot of things and I know we need a striker.

‘The most important thing is the team. We are waiting for one (new striker) but we don’t know. I think it will be good for the team and for me to have another striker, to have more competition between us.

‘But I think I could play with him or without him. So I will be able to be in the first XI this season. I really want to be in the first XI this season.

‘I know I have to be really efficient with my club and I want to be the first striker of this team.’

He added: ‘We need to show ambition. The club has to show the fans that we want it. My team-mates and I, we need it as well. It’s all about the team. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker.’
