Owen Hargreaves believes Liverpool are better than Manchester United

Hargreaves has spoken

Owen Hargreaves has made a huge statement about his former club Manchester United. The injury-ridden midfielder turned pundit picked who he thinks are the best sides in the Premier League right now.

Hargreaves who played for United and City for a short spell believed Liverpool are much better than their arch enemies Manchester United this season. Klopp’s men have won three of their five games this season, with all of them being big scalps.

The Reds started the season with a 7 goal thriller against Arsenal, followed by a shock defeat to Burley, a draw against Tottenham, and then two impressive wins against Leicester City and Chelsea.

United got off to a great start winning three out of three but are now suffering their worst week this season after Jose Mourinho’s men lost against Pep Guardiola’s City, followed by a Europa league defeat to Feyenoord and then topping it off with a shocker against Watford last night.

Despite it being early days in the season some United fans have already taken to twitter to vent their frustration at their new coach, with the #Jose Out, and this comment will only irk the fans even more.

Speaking to BTSport he said, “They [Liverpool] are the second best team I’ve seen so far this season, Man City is by far the best team but I think Liverpool are second,’ Hargreaves said. They press the ball and work incredibly hard so even in games that they’re not at their best footballing-wise the energy and pressing like they showed the Emirates [earlier in the season] help them to win games.”

Fellow pundit Steve McManaman also reiterated Hargreaves’ words saying, “If you look at the contenders in this early part of the season I'd consider Liverpool stronger than Tottenham, stronger than Chelsea and stronger than Manchester United.”

Manchester City have been the best team by far this season, but maybe Klopp’s team aren't too far behind based on their current performance. But the Reds normally cave against the lesser teams, something evident in their performance against Burnley.

Has Jose’s blame game begun?

Jose Mourinho had strong words to with his players after the loss against Watford. The manager lost the Chelsea dressing room last season after some players took offence of his criticism towards them.

It looks to be a case of deja vu, but United fans will hope there will not be a similar fallout this time around.
