Pepe has never been shy to praise his Real Madrid and Portugal team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo

Pepe has backed his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world currently claiming that the Portuguese superstar is "light years ahead of anyone else" currently.

Ronaldo who has won the Ballon d’Or three times has already scored 43 goals in 41 appearances this season and with a goal in Real Madrid’s 4-0 demolition of Eibar, he became the first player to score 30 goals over six straight seasons in Spain's top division.

Pepe, in an interview with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Monday said that people like Cristiano Ronaldo were blessed by God.

"People like Cristiano are unique, they are people blessed by God,

"He was blessed by God and knew he would become one of the best in the history of football.

"Cristiano is the best and is light years ahead of anyone else. He's a quiet person, a hard-worker and honest."

Real Madrid suffered a shock 2-0 loss to Wolfsburg in the Champions League first leg and they will be hoping that Cristiano Ronaldo is at his his best as they look to bounce back in the second leg on Tuesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo urges fans to create a magical atmosphere at the Bernabeu

Madrid looked largely uninspired during the first leg, with goals from Ricardo Rodriguez and Maximilian Arnold helping Wolfsburg overcome the star studded side.

But Cristiano Ronaldo believes his team can overcome the 2-0 deficit at home and urged Madrid fans to support the team and create a “magical” atmosphere.

“The team are confident, the coach has faith and the fans must also have faith, Tuesday has to be a magical night,” he said.

“It is also important to remain calm in certain situations, we need patience and to know how to suffer for the win. The key objective is getting through to the next round, it is the only option that will allow us players and the fans to leave the stadium happy.”

Ronaldo said it would be important for Madrid to start strongly.

“It will be important to get the upper hand early on, we don’t want it to still be 0-0 at halftime,” he said.

“We have to play attacking football, without a doubt, but we have to play wisely”.

The Real Madrid talisman will again hope he can be among the goalscorers tomorrow night, and stop Wolfsburg from breaking their own record and proceeding to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time.
