London, Jan 3 (IANS/CMC) Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson seems resigned to losing Bermudian striker Nahki Wells in the January transfer window but hopes the issue can be resolved quickly one way or the other.
If the 23-year-old, at present sidelined with a hamstring injury, is snapped up, Parkinson wants time to rebuild his League One side without him, reports CMC.
Wells, whose 26 goals helped Bradford win promotion from League Two last season and is the club’s leading scorer again with 15 in all competitions this term, was linked with a move last summer to Championship club Queens Park Rangers.
The London club, currently third in the table and seeking a quick return to the Premiership after being relegated last season, may come calling again but two other Championship sides — Leeds United (eighth) and Huddersfield Town (13th) — are also reported to be keen to get the Bermudian’s signature.
Wells has so far refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with a move away from Valley Parade. His contract still has almost 18 months to run.
Bradford badly missed injured Wells’ firepower in a 0-3 defeat at lowly Notts County Wednesday leaving them in 12th place, seven points out of the play-offs.
Parkinson wants to avoid being left in limbo over Wells.
“The key to it is that I’d like it resolved early one way or another.
“Obviously there are players out there who are available and who we’re looking at should Nahki go.
“I’ve got to do that in terms of making sure we are covered if that scenario should happen.
“What concerns me is if the window draws to a close and he goes right at the end of it. Then the players who are possibly available we might lose.
“The best scenario is that we keep him because he’s a terrific goal-scorer. But we’ve got to make sure we get it right. We’ve got to start winning games of football.
“The speculation about whether Nahki is going or staying has been going on for quite a long time now, since last summer. We need to get it resolved.”
