A terrible performance from the Reds, topped by a great outing for the want-away midfielder Modric gave Tottenham a resounding 4-0 victory at the White Hart Lane.
Brad Friedel (7) : Looked solid between the posts. Had little to do as Liverpool spent majority of time catching up.
Kyle Walker (8) : The English youngster is the one-to-watch for the future. Made quite a few runs forward and ably supported the attackers on the right wing. Looked confident while defending.
Younes Kaboul (8) : Combined well with King and managed to keep a clean sheet. Looked solid in air against Andy Carroll.
Ledley King (8) : Stepped up to the challenge posed by the attacking duo of Suarez and Carroll.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto (7.5) : Tottenham’s most consistent performance had a decent outing once again. Defended well and supported Bale on the left wing. Provided the assist for the final goal of the game.
Gareth Bale (7.5) : His pace left Skrtel gawking several times. Looked sharp with the ball and had a few shots on target. Drew a few fouls from the Liverpool defenders.
Scott Parker (7) : Another solid performance from the former West Ham midfielder. Held the midfield and shielded his back four ably that allowed Modric the freedom to go forward.
Luka Modric (8) : Opened the scoring for Tottenham with a wonder strike with just 7 minutes on the board. Repeatedly dissected the Liverpool defense with his old Modric-esque vision in passing.
Niko Kranjcar (6.5) : Looked selfish on a few occasions. Boded well with Walker and Adebayor before eventually being substituted at half time with an injury.
Emmanuel Adebayor (8) : 2 goals on the day. Was a constant threat to Liverpool defenders. 3 goals in his two premier league appearances for Tottenham, I guess the Spur faithful have all but forgotten the Arsenal connection, eh?
Jermain Defoe (7.5) : Had a chance to put the game to bed in the early minutes of the second half but failed to convert a beautiful pass from Adebayor. Missed a few other chances to kill the game. Got on the scoresheet eventually in the 66th minute.
Substitutes:
Rafael van der Vaart (6.5) : Replaced Niko Kranjcar in the beginning of the second half. His versatility was on display as he shifted from right to the middle. Assisted Defoe’s goal that took the game away from Liverpool.
Sebastien Bassong, Giovani Dos Santos: Came on late on in the match for Ledley King and Defoe. Had little to do as Spurs registered a convincing 4-0 win.
LIVERPOOL
Pepe Reina (6) : Could do nothing much about Modric’s wonder strike in the first half. Well, could do nothing about anything happening on the pitch as his teammates put in a performance to forget. Failed to hold on to Defoe’s long range shot as Adebayor scored on a rebound.
Martin Skrtel (4) : Dreadful performance in an unfamiliar position at the right back. Failed to contain Bale and eventually got sent off after getting a second yellow for a rash foul on the Welshman.
Jamie Carragher (6) : Was the better of the Liverpool defenders. Preferred backing off that allowed plenty time to Adebayor and Defoe on the ball.
Daniel Agger (5) : Got injured in as early as the 10th minute. Tried to carry on but eventually had to be substituted in the 27th minute with an injury.
Jose Enrique (4) : A game to forget for the ex-Newcastle player. Was caught out of position for Spurs’ second goal. Kyle Walker proved to be a tricky customer for the Spaniard.
Jordan Henderson (4.5) : Managed to stay invisible throughout the match. Looked uncomfortable in the right of midfield.
Lucas (5) : Looked distracted as Parker and Modric controlled the middle of the park.
Charlie Adam (4) : Got sent off for a second yellow with just 28 minutes of game being played. Managed to complete only one pass forward while on the pitch.
Stewart Downing (5) : Was forced to play more defensively because of the early goal and then the Adam sending off. Looked good while attacking. Was replaced by Spearing in the 70 th minute.
Luis Suarez (6) : Had a frustrating outing. Was cautioned for disagreeing with the referee just before the end of first half. His goal was correctly ruled offside by the linesman.
Andy Carroll (4.5) : Another one who managed to stay invisible. 35 million too many, eh Kenny?
Substitutes:
Sebastian Coates (5) : Making a debut with just 8 teammates around him isn’t easy. And that proved to be the case for Coates. Looked troubled against Adebayor.
Jay Spearing, Craig Bellamy (5.5) : Both came on when Liverpool had no chance of coming back in the game. Had a decent outing nonetheless.
