Liverpool endured a frustrating night at Anfield against West Brom's resolute defence

It was another frustrating night for Liverpool as they dropped points at home to a side they should have and could have beat on the evidence of the game.

The Reds had ample chances to score but a combination of poor finishing, dubious refereeing and brilliant defending from West Brom have put a halt to Liverpool's recent run of rich goalscoring form.

Liverpool's substitute Dominic Solanke seemed to have scored for Liverpool late in the game but the referee disallowed the goal for handball much to the annoyment of Jurgen Klopp. The German manager will be disappointed that his side dropped points in back to back home games when they had the chance to close the gap on the teams above them.

West Bromwich Albion

Ben Foster - 6/10

Foster wasn't tested by Liverpool despite starting their 'fab four'. The wind at Anfield cause him to drop a relatively simple catch but an alert defence cleared the danger.

Alan Nyom- 6/10

Nyom used his speed and upper body strength well to stop Roberton from offering Liverpool width down the left-hand side. He also did well to cope with the agility and flair of Mane and Coutinho.

Ahmed Hegazi - 8/10

It took Mohamed Salah's compatriot to finally stop him from scoring. Hegazi's positional sense was impeccable and he made a good clearance from Dominic Solanke's effort when Foster was off the line. He also had a good chance to score at the other end.

Jonny Evans - 6.5/10

Hegazi was the more aggressive of the two defenders but Evans complimented his defensive partner well and made sure that there was no space for Liverpool to exploit when Hegazi was defending on the front foot.

Kieran Gibbs - 6/10

Wasn't as spectacular as the other West Brom defenders and let Salah ghost past him on a few occasions. He wasn't able to stop Alexander-Arnold from putting in dangerous crosses either.

Jake Livermore - 6/10

Livermore like most of his teammates had very little influence on the attacking front but he too did well to ensure the Liverpool attack didn't get the space to operate in.

Claudio Yacob - 7/10

Yacob looked on top of his game, battling with the likes of Can, Coutinho and Wijnaldum to not let them dictate the play.

Grzegorz Krychowiak - 7.5/10

The Pole looked like he was slowly back to his best. He released Rondon in a rare attacking move for West Brom from which they won a free-kick. The resulting free-kick which Krychowiak took nearly swung into the net because of the wind.

Hal Robson-Kanu - 6/10

Was involved more at the defensive end understandably to give cover to the fullbacks. He came closest to scoring for West Brom when his brilliant effort from distance beat Karius and hit the crossbar.

Jose Salomon Rondon - 6.5/10

Starved off any attacking service but did whatever he could to hold the ball up and bring his team into play. Won a few fouls which also helped his side run down the clock.

James McClean - 5/10

Was energetic and hardworking but that's about it. Hardly ever put the Liverpool defense under pressure.

Substitutes:

Jay Rodriguez - 5.5/10

He made a few risky decisions while defending which could have proved costly for his side in the few minutes he was on the pitch.

James Brunt - 6/10

Played the last 10 minutes or so in place of Krychowiak and did the exact same things as the other West Brom midfielders.

Liverpool

Loris Karius - 7/10

Karius put in an impressive performance when he was handed a rare start in the Premier League. He caught the ball cleanly on several occasions despite the wind at Anfield and made a crucial save from a West Brom corner but his quick distribution to start a counter was what caught the eye the most.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6/10

The youngster enjoyed a good first half and put in some brilliant crosses and was unlucky not to go home with at least two assists. He was shaky towards the end of the second half and was understandably replaced by Joe Gomez.

Dejan Lovren - 6.5/10

Lovren didn't put a foot wrong all game and was able to cope with Rondon when needed. He dwelled on the ball far too long at times when Liverpool needed to pass quickly to open up space.

Ragnar Klavan - 7/10

The Estonian was one of the best players on the pitch for either team. He made sure Rondon didn't get space to work in and made some brilliant interceptions and clearances throughout.

Andrew Robertson - 5/10

What Liverpool missed the most against West Brom was the width Alberto Moreno provided. Robertson clearly lacked rhythm and was squandered several crossing opportunities.

Emre Can - 6/10

He made several poor passes throughout the game and picked up an unnecessary yellow card. He didn't offer much offensively but was strong in defence.

Georginio Wijnaldum - 6/10

Not Wijnaldum's best or worst game but more was expected of the Dutchman. He couldn't help the fab four carve out chances. Was just effective enough.

Philippe Coutinho - 7/10

The Brazilian is playing better than he ever has this season. He constantly twisted and turned away from players and sprayed passes over the top to find the runs of Salah. He also had two decent efforts from distance saved by Foster.

Mohamed Salah - 6.5/10

The inform Egyptian could have scored at least two goals and was visibly upset after the game. He made some terrific runs in behind the defence but it was a night when he couldn't find the back of the net.

Roberto Firmino - 6/10

The best chance of the first half fell to the Brazilian and it is hard to decide if he took a shot or squared the ball to Coutinho but either way, a big chance was lost. He was his usual industrial self.

Sadio Mane - 5.5/10

Mane hasn't been poor in any way this season but he hasn't surely hit the heights of last season either. He had a good chance in the first half when he was found at the edge of the box but he sliced the effort wide. That summed up his game.

Substitutes:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6/10

He was lively once he came on and his freshness caused some problem for Nyom. His run into the box gave Solanke a chance to score as well.

Dominic Solanke - 7/10

Probably should have had his first professional goal. On another day, that goal might have stood. He also had another good chance to score.

Joe Gomez - N/A

Didn't have a lot of time to influence the game as he came on as a late sub for Alexander-Arnold.
