Manchester United made Victor Lindelof their first signing in the summer of 2017 when they bought him from Benfica for around £31 million. The 23-year old won the Primeira Liga with Benfica before moving to Manchester United. Many United fans were excited with his arrival and expected him and Eric Bailly to emulate the iconic central defensive partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

His first start for Manchester United came against newly promoted Huddersfield Town and it quickly turned into a horror show for the Swedish international. He made an error at the back which led to a Huddersfield Town goal. He looked lost on the field and was unable to the pace of the Premier League. It was evident he needed more time to adapt before becoming a permanent starter for Manchester United. He made his next start against Newcastle United, a game the Red Devils comfortably won 4-1. He made 3 consecutive starts after that and looked much improved. However, he continued to make little mistakes at the back. Lindelof managed 29 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United last season.

Last summer there was speculation about Manchester United wanting another center-back. Many United supporters were still not convinced that Lindelof can lead the defence for the club. But with United unable to sign a centre-back, it was an opportunity for Lindelof to prove his worth. He was handed a start against Leicester City in the Premier League opener alongside Eric Bailly and he did well. He made 7 consecutive starts, but Manchester United managed to keep just one clean sheet in that period.

But the game against West Ham was a turning point in his Manchester United career. His performances after the Red Devils' dismal loss at the London Stadium has been solid. His best performance came against Juventus in the Champions League at Old Trafford. Although United lost the game 1-0, his performance was the only positive the supporters took home. He has been sensational at the back ever since, starting most of the games. He looks far more composed on the ball and always looks to break the line of the opposition. He's nicknamed "The Iceman" by the Old Trafford faithful for his calmness on the ball. He has already played more minutes till now than the whole of last season.
