A major criticism of Arsenal over the years has been their defensive weakness and this is an issue which still persists, evidenced that the Gunners backline shipped in 51 goals in the Premier League last season, which was the second-worst of the top nine teams after Manchester United's 54.

Moving ahead, defensive solidity would be a priority for Unai Emery if Arsenal are to achieve their goals and with this in mind, he could sacrifice one attacker for more presence in the middle of the park.

This formation would see Nicolas Pepe drop back into left midfield, while the defensive conscious Alex Iwobi would complement him on the other wing with Lacazette and Aubameyang both playing as center-forwards.

Nicolas Pepe would be tasked with tracking back to help Kolasinac at left-back and while it might help improve Arsenal defensively, it severely limits the attacking output of the 24-year-old which was the reason why he was signed in the first place.
