Premier League 23 Dec 2017: Arsenal vs Liverpool - Liverpool's Attack Let Down By Poor Defence

Arsenal v Liverpool - Premier League
Sanchez's goal sparked a comeback from Arsenal

When Salah scored in the 52nd minute to double Liverpool's lead, Arsenal were in a shambolic state, with Liverpool absolutely dominating the game. 6 minutes later, it's the complete opposite situation as Arsenal lead 3-2.

Final Score: Arsenal 3-3 Liverpool

Scorers: Philippe Coutinho 26' (LIV), Mohamed Salah 52' (LIV), Alexis Sánchez 53' (ARS), Granit Xhaka 56' (ARS), Mesut Özil 58' (ARS), Roberto Firmino 71' (LIV)

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho scored his first ever headed Premier League goal in the first half, after Liverpool had been dominating the game, creating chance after chance. Liverpool could've easily been 3-0, 4-0 up at half time--Arsenal were playing that bad. Although thanks to Petr ?ech's saves, the home side was only 1-0 down at the break.

The second half started how the first half ended, with Liverpool in full control of the game, resulting in another goal for them as Salah scored his 15th Premier League goal this season in the 52nd minute. This was when Liverpool collapsed.

Until Salah's goal, Liverpool were playing the much better football, bossing the midfield and shutting down Arsenal's forwards. After scoring, however, Liverpool seemed to switch off, as a cross from Bellerin found Sanchez, who easily got past Gomez at the far post to score, just 1 minute after Salah's goal. Arsenal, inspired by Sanchez's goal, were a different side to how they were playing in the first half.

Granit Xhaka scored the second with a trademark long shot from outside the box, 3 minutes after Sanchez. Mignolet got a hand to it but it was not strong enough to keep it out, as the teams became level (2-2). The Liverpool keeper has come under fire constantly for his mistakes, and this was another situation where he should've done better.

2 minutes later, Özil scored, putting Arsenal in the lead. Within 5 minutes, Liverpool had gone from being 2-0 up, 2-3 down. Even though Firmino was able to equalise in the 73rd minute, from a Liverpool fan's perspective, this was a great opportunity to get all 3 points, let down by an unstable defence. Arsenal fans would be disappointed by the draw, as it leaves them outside the top 4, but judging by how the game was going at half time, a draw is not a bad result.
