Norwich Manchester United
Wayne Rooney takes a shot against Norwich City

Alex Neil’s Norwich City are set to host Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United at Carrow Road later in the evening today. The Canaries had registered a 2-1 win against LVG’s side while playing at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign, with Cameron Jerome and Alex Tettey scoring for Norwich City and new signing Anthony Martial scoring for Manchester United.

Today’s match will be an interesting affair as both the teams would be looking to win the tie for their respective goals; United aiming to book a place in the Champions League and Norwich looking to stay in the top flight by avoiding relegation.

Norwich City are coming off a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates. They are currently 19th in the league, comfortably above the recently relegated Aston Villa. A win today would mean the world to them as it would strengthen their chances of survival, also completing a historical double over 20 times Premier League champions; Manchester United.

On the other hand, Manchester United drew 1-1 at Old Trafford to recently crowned Premier League Champions Leicester City. United would be hoping to win this away fixture to bolster their chances of booking their place in the Champions League. A win today would also make up for the loss to Norwich in the reverse fixture.

The last time Manchester United came to Carrow Road in the Premier League, they were victorious with a score of 1-0, coming from former United star Danny Welbeck.

With Injuries to defenders Ryan Bennett, Timm Klose and Andre Wisdom, alongside midfielder Alex Tettey, who is potentially ruled out, the Canaries are going to face the biggest game of their entire season. Anything less than a win would make them favourites to be relegated to the Championship.

Norwich’s relegation rivals Sunderland and Newcastle play recently dethroned Chelsea and recently relegated Aston Villa respectively. The relegation battle is getting hotter as the season approaches its end as all the teams caught up in the battle will look to post positive results.

Manchester United will expect to pick up three crucial points against the Canaries. The Red Devils would want to heap pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal, who are set to face each other on Sunday. A win for United would put them just one point behind their rivals City and could give them a realistic chance of making the top four.

To make things more interesting, Liverpool are seeking to win the UEFA Europa League, which would guarantee them a spot in the Champions League. This means that in the next season, five Premier League teams may ply their trade in the coveted European club competition.
