Premier League transfer news: Kroos to Man United, Aubameyang to Merseyside and more - 2nd January 2018

Real Madrid v Fiorentina
Real Madrid could sell him to balance books

A day has already passed in the new year and the transfer mill hasn’t stopped churning some of the best and the most outrageous rumours that you may have never imagined. Today, however, has been a quieter-than-usual day as not may new players have been linked with new clubs.

But we can always count on outlets making news on Manchester United as their manager is visibly unhappy with the squad that he has—which automatically makes the Old Trafford outfit susceptible to these rumours.

Without further ado, here are some of the rumours of the day…

#5 Kongolo to Huddersfield almost done

Feyenoord v Manchester United FC - UEFA Europa League
Monaco's talent might come to PL

It seems as though every Premier League club is beginning to understand the importance of a ball-playing defender. After all, they are the ones that start off attacks from the defensive half, which is why Huddersfield have targeted one of the most talented ball-playing defenders in France.

Terence Kongolo might not have had a great time at Monaco since joining the club. However, the club is aware of the ability that he possesses and, as a result, are willing to let him go only on loan, with Huddersfield being on the receiving end.

Huddersfield boss, David Wagner, has confirmed that the deal is close.

“I can confirm that we are approaching a deal,” he said.

“We are charmed by him, we know him and now we are going to see what will happen in the transfer period, I can not answer very concretely, but we are close and hopefully we can pull the deal off.”

#4 Some Everton

Real Madrid CF v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League
Aubameyang might finally leave Dortmund

Everton are one of those clubs that have been quite active in the rumours zone since the last month. Their pursuit of Cenk Tosun has made quite a few headlines and I can’t keep it out of this space anymore.

According to the Mirror, Everton have submitted a final £25 million bid for the player and are not going to increase their valuation of him. As a result, the deal now looks very unlikely. However, he is not the only striker linked to the Toffees.

Mirror also reports that Allardyce wants Aubameyang from Dortmund and has given his green-signal for a club-record £60 million move for the Gabonese. This rumour comes as a follow-up from what Bild reported earlier this week.

#3 North London part I

Southampton v Chelsea - Premier League
Luiz to Arsenal won't be happening

Of course, going alphabetically, Arsenal are the ones that are going to be the subject of this section. The North Londoners were earlier linked with a move for Chelsea’s David Luiz, but Wenger has rubbished those claims.

He was quoted as saying, “these reports are wrong,” according to reports. However, he doesn’t deny that the club is on the lookout for quality players. "We are out there and [could] look to do some things, yes," he added.

Meanwhile, Daily Cannon reports that the Gunners might call back Lucas Perez from loan at Deportivo to add extra depth to their attack. And then there is a report from News Mondo which claims that Wenger has set his eyes on Kerem Demirbay of Hoffenheim, who plies his trade as a midfielder for the German outfit.

#2 North London part II

Corinthians v Goias - Brasileirao Series A 2015
Could he join the Premier League soon?

And this is obviously about the other North London team: Tottenham Hotspur. It can’t be denied that the Lilywhites have been one of the most active members of the transfer rumours’ fraternity—and today is no different.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Pochettino is willing to let go of Michel Vorm and Georges Kevin N’Koudou in order to fund the transfers of Luke Shaw or Ryan Sessegnon. That’s not all, however, as Spurs fans might have to bear some bad news here.

The Sun claims that Bordeaux have rejected a £31 million bid laid by the London club for the attacker, Malcom. The Brazilian has been linked with a plethora of clubs that also include Arsenal and Manchester United, but Spurs seem to have been the first club to make a real approach for the player.

However, it has gone in vain, if the reports are to be believed.

#1 More, more and more Manchester madness

SSC Napoli v Manchester City - UEFA Champions League
The left-back could be on his way to United

By now, you might have noticed the dearth of new transfer rumours. Thankfully, however, there are the Red Devils to save us from the famine. The Sun claims that Manchester United are closing in to sign Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, who could be available for £54 million as the Italian club is on the verge of capturing Grimaldo from Benfica.

Meanwhile, The Sun (via Le10 Sport) claims that Manchester United want Lucas Moura, who could be available for £60 million as the Financial Fair Play’s pressure mounts on PSG. Also, Don Balon claims that United have offered £53 million for Gareth Bale, which is much below Madrid’s valuation of £80 million.

And Don Balon has taken the madness a step further as they claim that Toni Kroos could be sold to either Manchester United, Paris-Saint Germain or Manchester City as the Blancos look to balance their books with FFP’s pressure mounting on them too.
