Premier League transfer news: Tottenham want Brazilian talent, Arsenal offer record wages to Aubameyang and more, 24th January, 2018

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League
Aubameyang is close to Arsenal

Hello and welcome to the transfer roundup of the Premier League for January 24, 2018. Time runs fast, doesn’t it? Only a few days ago was I setting up the countdown for the window to open. And now, there are only a few days to go before it is slammed shut.

Anyways, here are the rumours for the day and trust me, they are freaking spicy!

#5 CrystalPalace and West Ham

Hang on a minute, what did you think? That you won’t be reading anymore Crystal Palace rumours?! Ha ha ha! Anyways, according to the live blog section of the Daily Mirror (January 23, 05.13), Roy Hodgson’s team are favourites to land talented Celtic striker, Moussa Dembele.

Meanwhile, Guardian’s Ed Aarons is reporting that West Ham’s £15 million bid for Tom Cairney has been rejected by Fulham, who now ply their trade in the second division of England. Fulham are not going to bend as they are not willing to let go of their player in this window.

#4 Newcastle

Leicester City v Fleetwood Town - The Emirates FA Cup Third Round Replay
Slimani is a coveted man according to the rumours

So remember Newcastle being linked with a move for an unnamed striker that would shatter their transfer record of £16 million, as it was reported by the Chronicle. We have some update on that front, although we are not sure if the said player in the following report is the one bespoken of by the Chronicle.

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Newcastle have had a bid for Nicolai Jorgensen knocked back as Feyenoord rate him at over £20 million.

Meanwhile, The Mirror seem to think that the man for which the Toons will break their transfer record is Islam Slimani. The Leicester forward has found it hard to break into the team due to the form of Jamie Vardy and is valued at £20 million by his club.

#3 Liverpool

AS Monaco v Juventus - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: First Leg
Another coveted man

Well, well, Liverpool. They started the window with a bang with the acquisition of Virgil van Dijk for a record £75 million. However, all the excitement went into the drain as Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona. However, his sale did leave Liverpool with £102 million worth of hard and cold cash upfront (and £40 million in variables).

And they are yet to spend it. However, if reports from Yahoo! Sports are to be believed, then that could change as Liverpool have once again shown interest in Brazilian star Luan, who has a release clause of €18 million.

The same report also claims that Liverpool have an agreement in place with Thomas Lemar. They are, however, unwilling to meet Monaco’s valuation of the player that stands at €100 million. Interest in Pulisic is also mentioned in the same report.

#2 Arsenal

West Bromwich Albion v Brighton and Hove Albion - Premier League
Jonny Evans is reportedly wanted by Arsenal

So there is a lot of news about Arsenal today, which is good because it becomes easier for me to organise the words. Anyways, there has been some update regarding Arsenal’s chase of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to Bild, the Gunners have increased their bid to £50 million after failing with their previous offer of £45 million. The same outlet also report that the Gabon captain has been offered £335,000-per-week, which would make him the highest earner at the club.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail believe that the Gunners are back in for Jonny Evans and have opened talks with West Brom. The defender is rated at £20 million in the report. The report claims that Arsenal were worried about the defender’s unwillingness to move south, but now seem to have gotten some positive signs.

#1 Manchester madness ft. Totttenham

Athletic Club v Getafe - La Liga
Laporte almost joined City in 2016

Yes, I did that! Ever since Manchester United have signed Alexis Sanchez, the rumours surrounding them have dried up. For hungry folks like us, this is just devastating news. But worry not, the other part of Manchester are alive and kicking!

According to Marca, Aymeric Laporte will be a Manchester City player soon. Pep Guardiola is willing to pay his €65 million release clause and the Spaniard will sign a 5-year contract with the Etihad outfit, who apparently came close to signing him in 2016.

Wait, wait… I take back what I said—Manchester United are back! The Red Devils are now being linked with Jean Michael Seri by The Sun as they claim that Mourinho wants to improve his midfield.

Meanwhile, Goal claim that Tottenham have a plan B should the negotiations for Malcom fail: Ajax’s David Neres. The report states that he will cost less than the Brazilian and that the talks should occur in the upcoming days.
