Premier League transfer news: Andre Gomes to Tottenham, Jan Oblak to Liverpool, and more, January 7, 2018

Arsenal v Newcastle United - Premier League
Off to United this month?

Yesterday, Barcelona signed Philippe Coutinho for an astounding £145 million. After that, it is all about a domino effect that has seen the rumour mill spinning at its full speed and weaving out speculation one after the other.

Obviously, Liverpool feature heavily today, so do Tottenham Hotspur—who have been linked with three different players—and, no points for guessing, Manchester United. So, without further ado, here are the top rumours of the day…

#5 Everton and West Ham

Swansea City v Huddersfield Town - Premier League
Mawson is a man in demand

According to a report from The Sun, West Ham are going to tempt Alfie Mawson as they are willing to increase his wages fourfold should their £25 million bid for the midfielder be accepted.

Meanwhile, Daily Star claim that Everton are interested in signing a talented Argentine winger from Zenit: Emiliano Rigoni. The winger has been in great form this season and has been identified as a good addition by Allardyce. He has a release clause of £35 million and Everton will have to pay that to get a piece of him.

#4 Southampton’s surge

Arsenal v West Ham United - Carabao Cup Quarter-Final
Walcott could save his World Cup dream at Saints

They have £75 million from Virgil van Dijk’s sale burning in their pockets and they are not afraid to spend it, at least that is what could be inferred from the reports.

Theo Walcott’s situation at Arsenal is not nice for a player who wants to be on the plane to Russia next year. As a result, he wants to move out in order to player and Southampton are one of the clubs interested in acquiring him on loan.

And Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed it.

“I have been talking about him,” he said.

“He is a good player, but I don’t know with the negotiations, with the market. I imagine that this type of player would have a lot of possibility. For us it’s not easy.

“Hopefully we can bring somebody that can help us be stronger. This is our target now.

“We know the market is difficult, but we are working on that.”

Meanwhile, another player they have been linked is Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong and will make a £10 million bid for him, say Sunday Post.

#3 Liverpool’s lavishness

Slovenia v Scotland - FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier
Jan Oblak is a class goalkeeper

Having £105 million to spend (Barcelona reportedly paid that much up top for Coutinho) means Liverpool could go all guns blazing in the coming weeks.

BeIN Sport claim that Riyad Mahrez is set for a medical with the Reds as a £49 million fee has been accepted by the Foxes.

That’s not all. The Independent claim that Jurgen Klopp wants a major upgrade for goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and has identified Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak as an option. Oblak has a £88 million release clause and Atletico are not a club that sells easily.

So you do the rest of the math.

#2 Tottenham time

FC Barcelona v Real Sociedad de Futbol - La Liga
Gomes could revive his career at Tottenham

Spurs have been linked with no less than three players. So we will get started without further ado.

The Express believe that Mauricio Pochettino isn’t exactly a happy man after missing out on Ross Barkley and will make an approach for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, whose place in the team is under scrutiny after Coutinho’s move.

Meanwhile, Salzburger Nachrichten believe that Spurs are the frontrunners to acquire the signature of the highly-talented Lyon starlet, Willem Geubbels, who is regarded as one of the best 16-year-olds in the world.

Finally, Spurs might add another Moussa Dembele to their team as they are interested in signing Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, according to bookmakers SkyBet.

#1 Manchester madness

Real Sociedad de Futbol v Real Madrid CF - La Liga
Back to England?

A Premier League transfer rumour slider without Manchester United is no transfer rumour slider at all. They are the soul of this space and they have given life to this today too.

According to Express, Manchester United have stepped up their chase for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, who are apparently tired of the Welshman’s niggling injuries. That’s not all. Daily Star claim that Jose Mourinho will battle Arsene Wenger for £30 million-rated Shakhtar Donetsk star, Fred.

Also, the Mirror believe that Manchester United will make a bid for Mesut Ozil this window as his contract is set to expire by the end of the season and Arsenal could be tempted to sell him rather than let him go for free.

Meanwhile, the same outlet believe that Pep Guardiola has decided to go full YOLO and make a £50 million bid for Harry Maguire, who only just joined Leicester City 6 months ago.
