Hello and welcome to the Premier League transfer roundup for the day! Here are the top stories surrounding the Premier League today...

#5 Richard Dunne on United defenders

Manchester United might be back to their winning ways but the truth is that they haven’t been entirely convincing. While their comeback wins show their mettle and prove that they are mentally strong, it also reveals that their defense needs a rework.

According to former Manchester City defender Richard Dunne, Manchester United don’t possess the defenders that they once had.

The likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic held the fort for them for a long time and Dunne believes that the moment Mourinho gets defenders of the highest caliber, he will dump his current pair.

“It’s not easy for United because when you look around the world there aren't that many centre-backs playing at that top level who they can get from other clubs,” he said.

“Since the days of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic United have struggled to get a settled two and I’m sure as soon as Mourinho has the opportunity he will change the two he has now for different ones,” said Dunne.

Dunne was of the opinion that Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling don’t ooze the same aura as those legends of days gone by and it is for this reason that the Red Devils will be looking for defenders once the window opens as a strong backline is the most necessary aspect to win league titles.

“At the moment he has Lindelof and Smalling but they don’t inspire confidence throughout the team and as soon as that transfer window opens I’m sure they will be out looking for centre-backs again.

“To win league titles you always have to be solid at the back and United just haven’t been able to find that partnership to give them the base.”

#4 Roy Hodgson on Welbeck rumours

Danny Welbeck might have seen his place in the Arsenal starting XI been blocked by Lacazette and Aubameyang but he was showing signs of getting back to his groove before getting badly injured in Arsenal’s Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon.

The Englishman has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace and manager Roy Hodgson has spoken about it. The former Liverpool boss played down reports linking him to the club, stating that Palace aren’t looking for anyone specific at this point in time.

"Like all clubs in the Premier League, we are all constantly assessing and looking at players, so that when the day comes, if there is a vacancy and if there is money to spend, you know where to go,” he was quoted as saying.

"We aren’t specifically targeting anything at this moment in time.”

#3 Dybala wants to play with Pogba

Same team again?
Same team again?

This will certainly fuel some rumours as Argentina star Paulo Dybala has openly admitted to wanting to play with Paul Pogba once again. The pair were team-mates during their time in Turin and met each other as rivals during Juventus’ clash against Manchester United.

While Pogba left for the Old Trafford in 2016, Dybala is still in Turin and has established himself as one of the best forwards in the game.

The Argentine claimed that the first game at the Old Trafford was a great experience for him and that he hopes that he can play alongside Pogba as his team-mate somewhere down the line again.

“The first game [at Old Trafford] was amazing for me, and the second for him,” he said.

“But it was just nice to play against him. We have remained in touch since he left [Juventus].

“We’re still very close and who knows, maybe in the future we can play together again on the same team…”

A move to United soon? Or is it going to be Pogba to Juve?

#2 Dani Alves reveals he rejected Manchester City

Former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has claimed that the Pep Guardiola wanted to sign him for Manchester City in 2017.

The Brazilian spent some of his best years under the Spaniard at Barcelona but decided to reject the chance to play under him once again after discussing with his family.

“Everyone knows the respect I have for him and how much he helped me grow as a footballer I received their proposal, I evaluated it, but in the end, I preferred not to accept it after consulting with my family,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are once again being linked with a move for former Liverpool target Nabil Fekir. According to El Gol Digital, via TalkSport, Maurizio Sarri is a fan of the player and has already spoken to him regarding a potential move to the Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman was on the verge of signing for Liverpool this past summer but the move broke down at the very last minute.

#1 Rumour of the day: Barcelona targeting Hazard and Salah

When Ousmane Dembele was signed by Barcelona last year, there was a lot of excitement among the Catalans regarding his signature. After all, one could make an argument of the Frenchman being more talented than even Kylian Mbappe.

However, after over a year since his move to the Camp Nou, there seems to be doubt over how successful he could be with the Blaugrana. As a result, there are whispers of the club wanting to sell him.

According to Don Balon, his time at the Camp Nou might just be up as the Catalans have targeted two players as a means to replace him should the Frenchman be sold.

The players are Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard. While it will be harder to get Hazard because he prefers to move to Madrid, Salah would be easier to sign than the Belgian.

Both the Egyptian and the Belgian are valued at €150 million by Transfermarkt.
