Liverpool begin their pre-season for the summer with a friendly game against Preston North End at the Deepdale Stadium on Sunday. It marks their first slice of action since concluding their 2024-25 campaign on 25 May as the Reds secured their second Premier League title.
Arne Slot, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp at the helm, ushered in a new era at Anfield, which also saw them reach the Carabao Cup finals.
Now in his second season, the Dutchman will be aiming for more trophies as Liverpool have their sights on Europe after conquering England.
However, it's been a tough last few weeks for them with the tragic passing of their striker, Diogo Jota, in a devastating car accident in Spain earlier this month.
Liverpool players as well as Slot were seen attending the Portuguese star's funeral in his hometown of Gondomar a few days ago.
Now, for their first friendly game of the summer, it's unlikely that their key players will feature as many of them were also involved with their respective national teams last month for World Cup qualifiers and Nations League fixtures.
Slot may go with reserve players from the academy for this one, giving his starting XI a much-needed rest.
Meanwhile, Preston engage in their third friendly game of the summer. They started on 8 July against Bamber Bridge, losing 2-1, but recovered to beat Chorley 1-0 the next day.
