Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein welcomes the candidacy of Luis Figo
Following the announcement of former Portugal international and Ballon d'Or winner Luis Figo's candidacy for the position of President of FIFA, HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein commented earlier today welcoming the development in the interest of the world football governing body.
"We welcome the candidacy of Luis Figo, who today joined a group of credible colleagues from the football family who want to join a genuine debate about the future of FIFA. As I stated earlier this week, this election is about what is in the best interests of football and the world governing body of the game going forward. It is good for democracy to have an election with multiple reform candidates," Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein said in an official statement.
With the announcement from Luis Figo, he is the sixth person to throw his hat into the ring after current FIFA president Sepp Blatter, former FIFA assistant general secretary Jerome Champagne, former footballer David Ginola, the Dutch Football Association president Michael van Praag, and FIFA vice-president and AFC vice-president HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein.
