Rumour: QPR boss Harry Redknapp to consider move for Liverpool’s Glen Johnson

Harry Redknapp is looking to entice Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson to Loftus Road, reveals the Daily Star.

The England international’s current deal expires in the summer of 2015 and, with no extended terms forthcoming, Redknapp is set to test Liverpool’s resolve to retain the defender.

QPR are said to be counselling a new transfer policy this summer, placing a greater emphasis on the recruitment of younger players thus lessening the extortionate wage bill.

However, Redknapp still wants a few experienced acquisitions to aid Ranger’s plight to stay in the top tier next term.

Johnson played under Redknapp at West Ham and Portsmouth, so the former Tottenham manager knows the 29-year-old’s game well.

However, Johnson is said to be after a three year, £120,000-a-week contract at Anfield, which would be beyond the reach of QPR’s means.

Liverpool are already scouring the market for a left-back, pinpointing Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno as their prime target.

This could enable Jon Flanagan to revert to his favoured position on the right flank, facilitating the sale of Johnson.
