Championship side Queens Park Rangers has decided to add its match day hash tag on the dugouts for all home matches and in the process making them the first football club to do so.

The match day hashtag will be embedded into the home dugout and is designed to increase the fan engagement in social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

“We are always looking for new and innovate ways to engage with our fans through social media. We understand that communication with our fans is crucial and our social media channels allow us to experiment with new technologies to help engage with our fans,” said Adam Hulme, QPR’s Multi-Media Officer.

“In becoming the first club to add our matchday hashtag to our home dugout we hope to show our growing fanbase how to interact with each other to hopefully add an extra dimension to their matchday experience,” he added.

The club has been launching a series of media initiatives over the past two years and the initiatives has helped them to grow their social presence with over 147,000 followers on Twitter, as well as 230,000 Facebook fans and a staggering growth of 108% in last season.
