Real Madrid poised to make more signings: Rafael Benitez

Benitez has assured Real Madrid fans of new signings this summer

Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez is targeting some new faces for his club this summer as he looks to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season. But the former Liverpool coach has also admitted that it will be difficult to improve his current squad.

Madrid signed Brazilian right-back Danilo for a fee of €31.5 million towards the end of last season and will be joining with the squad from the next season onwards. Defensive midfielder Casemiro has also been brought back from FC Porto, after spending a year on loan with them.

In his first interview as Madrid coach, Benitez was quoted as saying, “Of course. Danilo and Casemiro, for example, are players who are going to be important and the club is working every day to try to raise the level of this team with the odd signing that can help us to tackle the challenges ahead of us,” via the club’s official website.

“But let me say that improving the current Real Madrid squad is immensely difficult.”

Real Madrid have been linked with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba throughout the summer. According to recent developments, Manchester United are willing to part ways with de Gea if they can get Spanish defender Sergio Ramos as part of the deal.

Benitez said he has spoken to all his players and is keeping in touch with them, although he couldn’t assure which players will be a part of his plans for the next season.

"The first thing I've done is to listen, to know what went well and what went badly last year, to see what they thought could be improved and how they would like things to be done. Once we are all together, we will decide what is the best for the club and what is the best for each of them,” said the former Real Madrid B team coach.

Rafael Benitez was installed as Real Madrid’s new coach, after seeing out his 2-year contract with Napoli. He replaces Carlo Ancelotti, who had a trophyless 2014/15 campaign with the Los Blancos, having won the historic ‘La Decima’ in his previous season.
