As a prospect and an individual player, De Gea has been terrific. Unfortunately, he did not get much time to play under Sir Alex Ferguson. The Spanish goalkeeper played for two seasons under the Scotsman, making 80 appearances for United.

During that duration, De Gea won the Premier League despite struggling for a bit. Sir Alex strongly believed in his capabilities, which is why he never gave up on him.
