#1 2016/17: Champions League God

Cristiano Ronaldo's greatest season was 2016/17 with Real Madrid. Ronaldo went back to Spain after winning the Euro Cup with his national team in France in 2016 and securing his, then, fourth Ballon d'Or later in the year.

The 2016/17 did not start like his previous years but looked like he was saving some energy. With Real Madrid unbeaten from August 2016 to January 2017, he needed to be fresh for the second half.

Zidane managed to maintain Cristiano fresh for the second half of the year after giving him rest throughout the La Liga matches. In December, Madrid defeated Kashima Antlers to win the Clubs' World Cup with Ronaldo scoring three goals in the final to secure their 4-2 victory.

With just two goals in the UCL after the round of sixteen, not many were expecting the Portuguese to keep his 10-goal streak alive in the European Tournament, but his rest paid off in a big way.

Real Madrid played Bayern Munchen in the quarterfinals and it was Ronaldo's moment. The megastar scored a brace in the first leg in Germany to give Madrid the advantage for the second leg. An advantage which was in danger after a Robert Lewandowski penalty gave the German a second-half lead at Santiago Bernabéu, but Ronaldo had other plans.

He tied the game before an own goal from Sergio Ramos left everything to be decided in extra time. And again, Cristiano showed up with two more goals to propel Madrid to the final four.

In the semifinals, Cristiano opened the first leg against Atlético de Madrid with another hat-trick to send Madrid to their second consecutive final. This time, Juventus was on their way. But again, the UCL is Madrid's and Ronaldo's competition.

Los Blancos won in Cardiff 4-1 with Ronaldo scoring the first and third goal for the Spanish squad. He ended up with 12 goals in the Champions League and was the top goalscorer for the fifth year in a row.
