So imagine this: your board wants to sign five-time and the reigning Ballon d’Or winner for the club but you reject the option because you don’t want him. That is exactly what happened as Ed Woodward wanted to sign the former Sporting starlet but the self-proclaimed Special One didn’t sanction the move.

According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho didn’t think that spending £90 million on a 33-year-old player was wise, which is on top of wages of around £500,000-per-week (which is about the same as what Alexis Sanchez earns at the Old Trafford).

He was, however, left furious that Woodward wanted to sign a 33-year-old when he didn’t opt to buy the targets that Mourinho had listed down.
