With two goals from penalties, Ronaldo was on song for Real Madrid

It was double delight for Real Madrid, who thrashed their local neighbours keeping up with the tradition of emerging victors in the derby, and also emerging with a six point lead as their title rivals Barcelona slipped to defeat at Getafe. It was a comeback win for Real, who found themselves strangely 0-1 down in the 15th minute as Atletico took advantage of sloppy play from their opponents and Adrian waltzed past the defence to score. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a penalty in the 24th minute for Real after goal keeper Thibault Courtois was sent off, thus swinging matters the home team’s way.

A man down, Atletico struggled to contain Real, as in the 49th minute the home team’s lead was doubled when Ronaldo‘s cut-back found Di Maria, who finished it calmly. Higuain got himself on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to make it 3-1. More misery followed as another red card was waved at Atletico, this time at Godín.
