What’s the story?

Reports in Marca today suggest that Dani Carvajal will be out of action for the foreseeable future because of a viral infection of the heart. The viral problem is reportedly affecting his pericardium, and he will need 'a lot of time' to recover.

Though the initial reports suggested that he would be out for a long time, recent reports suggest that it would be just a month and a half before he is back in action.

Real Madrid have also confirmed that Carvajal will be out for some time. Los Blancos released a statement that read:

"Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal, he has been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection. His recovery will continue to be assessed."

In case you didn’t know...

Carvajal joins the ever-growing list of injured players at Bernabeu. Benzema is out for some time while Theo Hernandez and Marcelo have also been ruled out.

Marcelo has a hamstring injury and is expected to be back only in November. Theo Hernandez, meanwhile, has a dislocated shoulder and his return date is still unknown.

The heart of the matter

Zidane has a huge headache right now as Carvajal is also out of action for at least the next month and a half. The viral infection of the heart might be cured soon but the defender will need a lot of time to recover.

The Spanish defender recently signed a contract extension, keeping him at Bernabeu until June 2022.

What’s next?

With versatile defender, Nacho Fernandez already playing as a left-back for Marcelo and Hernandez, youngster Achraf Hakimi would be given the chance to step up. The 18-year-old was promoted to the first team in August and will be their main right-back until Carvajal returns.

Author’s Take

We wish Carvajal a quick recovery and hope to see him in action very soon. The right-back is easily the best in the world right now and it is a shame that he would be out of action for the next month and a half.
