Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano passes away at the age of 88

Alfredo Di Stefano died at the age of 88 after he suffered a heart attack

Alfredo Di Stefano passed away earlier today after having been in an induced coma in a Madrid hospital Saturday afternoon after suffering a heart attack . He was 88.

Considered to be the greatest player in Real Madrid’s history, Di Stefano was integral to establishing Real Madrid’s dominance of European football in the 1950s and was voted the European Player of the Year in 1957 and 1959. He also played International football for Argentina, Colombia and Spain.

Di Stefano had initially agreed terms with Barcelona, but Real Madrid stepped in at the last minute controversially and signed him. Following his move to Real Madrid, he helped them win 5 consecutive European championships and also won 8 League titles with them.

Following his retirement, he had two spells as the manager of Real Madrid and is the honorary president of the club.
