Real Madrid have had a miserable and topsy-turvy week after getting kicked out of the Copa Del Rey for fielding an ineligible player. Rafa Benitez had started Denis Cheryshev when he was supposed to be serving a suspension after picking up one too many yellow cards last season when he was on loan at Villarreal.

The Russian international had also scored before he was taken off. Although Real Madrid won 3-1, Cadiz appealed and the RFEF duly disqualified Real Madrid.

The disqualification left Real Madrid red-faced and rival fans have not stopped trolling the club since. Leading the charge was none other than Barcelona defender Gerard Pique who only tweeted a series of emojis when the issue came to light.

The tweet alone got more than 100,000 retweets as it went viral on Twitter. Two days after the tweet, the defender even enquired if it was a record for a tweet with no text.

However, his joy was short-lived as Barcelona drew 1-1 with Valencia after Santi Mina ensured Los Che would get at least a point at the Mestalla Stadium. The result reduced the Catalan club’s lead at the top of the Liga table to just two points ahead of Atletico Madrid and four ahead of Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid had beaten Getafe 4-1 earlier in the day and Guti waited till Barcelona dropped points to hit back at Pique with a similar tweet.

The tweet translates to “Congratulations Barca for a point”.

With all due respect to Guti though, most people would consider a point against Valencia to be a lot better than getting kicked out of a competition after winning a game.
