Real Madrid news: No player in the world would turn down a move to the Bernabeu, says Thibaut Courtois
What's the story?
In case you didn't know...
After winning the Golden Glove at the FIFA World Cup 2018, Courtois left Chelsea to join Real Madrid last summer.
However, his move to the Blancos has not gone according to plan as he has struggled to adjust to life at his new club. He has conceded 25 goals in 20 LaLiga games thus far this season and managed to keep just eight clean sheets.
The heart of the matter
Speaking to ABC (via Goal.com), Courtois revealed that he was happy at Chelsea but couldn't say no to an offer from Real Madrid.
He said: “I don't know any player that wouldn't want to play for Real Madrid. I was really happy at Chelsea, I felt completely integrated at the club and I had great teammates. Zero problems.
“But Real Madrid came knocking and obviously when Madrid show an interest, it's the biggest call you can get in football.”
He also added that he believes Cristiano Ronaldo is a club legend but no player is bigger than any other.
“He's a living legend at Real Madrid. The club's most recent history has been written, in the most part, with the goals he scored.
“I suffered facing Cristiano as a rival and he's a brilliant player but at Real Madrid I'm reminded of an old Santiago Bernabeu phrase which I am in agreement with - that no player is more important than all of the others.”
Real Madrid are scheduled to play Ajax in the Champions League next before facing Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu in the league.
