Planning for the summer?

What’s the story?

Real Madrid are set to active their buy-back clause in the Omar Mascarell's contract according to AS and Marca. The Spanish side are reportedly impressed by the midfielder's performance at Eintracht Frankfurt and are ready to give him a chance at the Bernabeu.

The AS report claims that he will cost Los Blancos just €4 million. Zidane plans to work with him in the pre-season and then decide if he is to remain at the club or move out.

In case you didn’t know...

Mascarell was sold to Eintracht Frankfurt by Madrid in 2016. The defensive midfielder has impressed in his stint at the German club and is a target for several clubs according to Marca.

Los Blancos are now keen on taking him back and giving him a chance in the pre-season. With the World Cup this summer, Zidane expects his regulars to miss the first few games of the pre-season and thus wants to have Mascarell at the club.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid have not decided what they want to do with Omar Mascarell but have activated the buy-back clause. It is believed that Madrid want to use him in the initial games of the pre-season and then make a huge profit.

Reports in Marca claim that Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 are monitoring his progress at Frankfurt and will be keen on signing him if Madrid decide to sell him.

AS and Marca have reported the same thing and have also claimed that Marcos Llorente will be the likely replacement for him at Eintracht Frankfurt. The young midfielder was linked with Chelsea in the summer.

Rumour Probability: 10/10

Madrid activated their buy-back clause on Alvaro Morata a couple of years back and then sold him to Chelsea a year later. With Mascarell, it will be the same thing but the sale might take place in the same summer.

Author’s Take

It's a good gamble for Madrid to play right now. They will be paying a mere €4 million for a player and if he comes good, then it will be a steal. If not, he will be sold for at least double of what they paid and that will be a brilliant piece of business for them.
