Real Madrid President Florentino Perez feels no scope of improvement in the squad after quiet transfer window

On Wednesday, the final day of the transfer window, Real Madrid President was at an event celebrating the new partnership deal between the club and a tyre company, Hankook when he spoke about having one of the quietest transfer windows in some years. The last time they spent so little, the president shelled out €35 million for the services of David Beckham, and that was in 2003.

At the signing, Perez said the current Real Madrid squad was impossible to improve and he had the utmost faith in their manager, Zinedine Zidane who is about to start his first full season at the club. Los Blancos have spent just €30 million, this time, to bring back Spanish forward Alvaro Morata from Juventus in June.

This, however, does not seem to bother the Madrid boss who is content with the form and depth of the team.

Alvaro Morata to Marca: “I would have regretted turning down Real Madrid”

The Spanish giants are surely out of place after the close of the transfer window where clubs broke their previous signing records to acquire players. Their biggest rivals Barcelona have spent an estimated €123 million in rebuilding their squad.

Aston Villa, a club that plays in the second division in England have spent more than the Los Blancos have. In spite of these daunting statistics, Perez said:

“It's a season full of challenges. We have already claimed the European Super Cup and won the first two games. We have a spectacular squad, impossible to improve. Also, a coach in Zidane, whose contributions have been indispensable.”

After winning the Champions League for an unprecedented 11th time last season, the Madrid president seems pretty confident of his team’s chances this campaign. While they may be the kings of Europe, Real Madrid has failed to win any significant domestic trophies. The last time they won the La Liga, it was 2012 and Jose Mourinho was their manager.

The objective now is to see how the club will weather the future, through suspensions and injuries, after adding no one except Morata to the squad with a possible transfer ban hanging over their heads for the next couple of windows.

They have recalled only two players who were out on loan – Marco Asensio from Espanyol and Fabio Coentrao from AS Monaco. This is in complete opposition to what Barcelona did when they were handed a similar ban. The Catalan club splurged an obscene amount of money in restructuring the squad to tide them over their ban.
