What's the story?

Real Madrid have not been firing on all cylinders at the start of this season and it looks like there might be more problems for Zidane as promising star Jesus Vallejo has reportedly decided to leave the Spanish giants due to lack of playing time.

The highly rated 20-year-old centre-back has made the matchday squad just once this season and it seems like Vallejo has had enough as reports in Spanish outlet Don Balon via The Express claim that the Spaniard has held crunch talks with Florentino Perez demanding an immediate exit from the 12-time European champions.

Jesus Vallejo is one of the brightest young talents in Spanish football at the moment

Signed from Real Zaragosa in 2015, Vallejo was expected to be anchoring the heart of defence for Los Blancos for many years to come. After a promising loan spell at Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, Vallejo expected this year to be his breakthrough season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Also, after Pepe's departure to Besiktas, Vallejo expected to be more involved in the matchday squad, but Zidane reportedly believes that the 20-year-old is not yet ready for first-team action.

One of the best defenders in the Bundesliga last season, Vallejo is looking for regular playing time and is keen on an exit from the club as soon as possible.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid have a star-studded squad and it is natural that youngsters like Theo Hernandez, Dani Ceballos and Jesus Vallejo will find it tough to break into the first team. Also, Ramos and Varane have formed an excellent partnership and Zidane also has the ever dependable Nacho to call upon and opportunities look hard to come by for Vallejo this season.

Strong, calm and composed on the ball, Vallejo is itching for some regular football and Real Madrid might be open to letting him leave on loan once again or even selling him in the January transfer window.

Author's take

Although Real Madrid might not want to lose one of their most talented players, it is only natural that Vallejo will want to get some regular playing time. If Zidane does not give the talented youngster more opportunities, Vallejo might well be out of the Bernabeu in January.
