Real Madrid Transfer Rumours: Aubameyang's future in doubt as Dortmund coach Tuchel reveals uncertainty

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to play for Real Madrid someday

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future was thrown in doubt after coach Thomas Tuchel gave a conflicting answer about his future. The Gabonese striker has admitted he would like to play for Real Madrid, and Tuchel fueled rumours of a move with a conflicting response to a question on Aubameyang’s future.

The former Mainz coach was initially confident when asked about Aubameyang’s prospects of staying, answering “I am totally confident. We have a long-term contract, which is a completely different situation for us than it was for our other key players, like Mats, Ilkay and Mkhitaryan.

However, as Tuchel continued, he inadvertedly revealed uncertainty regarding Aubameyang’s future, saying “He’s very, very, very important, an outstanding goalscorer, a huge personality for us, so right now I would say he stays, but... I don’t know. I can't predict the future, but if you ask me right now, I would say he stays.

Aubameyang’s prolific run in front of goal last season, which involved 25 goals in the league, has made him a target for many top clubs, with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola interested but Dortmund knocked back their inquiry, asking the Premier League club to pony up a fee of £65 million.

However, Aubameyang earlier noted that only Real Madrid could tempt him away from Dortmund, which sparked off plenty of rumours.

Real Madrid chasing plenty of high profile signings

While Real Madrid did pay €30 million to bring Alvaro Morata back to the club, Los Blancos have yet to make a high-profile signing. Signing Aubameyang would serve to satisfy Real Madrid fans clamouring for a big name, but would crowd the forward line, with Morata already joined by Karim Benzema.

Indeed, it appears as though Real Madrid are chasing multiple midfield options, with moves for PSG’s Marco Verratti and a high-profile pursuit of Juventus’ Paul Pogba being mooted. Zidane revealed a move for Pogba was in the works, saying “In this moment we are still working [on a move for Pogba], and I cannot say anything more.

Until August 31 anything can happen, but today he is not a Real Madrid player and I cannot talk about what will happen. I always say how things are, but now is not the time to talk about this. A lot of clubs are interested in Pogba. Real Madrid always want the best players. But we owe Juventus respect, and I can't say anything more out of respect.
