What's the story?

According to the reputed Spanish media outlet, AS, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is targeting players for four positions in his line-up in a potential summer overhaul at the end of the season.

The French tactician is in pursuit of players for the left-back, left-central midfielder, left-wing, and right-wing positions, according to the report.

In case you didn't know...

Following the third successive Champions League triumph in his first spell at the Spanish capital, Zinedine Zidane shockingly announced his resignation last summer.

Since then, Los Blancos' season has been nothing but misery. The 13-time European champions have already been out of the LaLiga title race since March. On the other hand, they've crashed out of the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League as well.

In what was a dreadful campaign across all competitions, the only rose in a bunch of thorns for the Galacticos was seeing Zinedine Zidane making a return at the Bernabeu with the view of overturning their fortunes - something he has already done before during his first stint with the LaLiga giants.

Upon his re-appointment, the Frenchman faces an arduous task of reviving the self-belief within the Madrid squad and taking them back to the top next season.

The heart of the matter

Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's recent European domination. While the Portuguese forward moved to the Turin-based club, Juventus, last summer, the remaining players have displayed below-par performances throughout the season in his absence.

While the Brazilian left-back and German playmaker are most likely to stay at the club, Gareth Bale's future at the Bernabeu has been surrounded by speculations lately.

According to reports in the Spanish media, Zidane is planning a summer overhaul with a €500 million budget to back him for the potential signings.

Porto defender, Eder Militao, has already been signed, while Belgian talisman, Eden Hazard, is most likely to be signed in the coming weeks.

What's next?

Following a 1-1 draw against Leganes away from home, Los Blancos will host Athletic Club Bilbao at the Bernabeu next in LaLiga.
