What's the story?

Real Madrid's Martin Odegaard is looking to decide on his future as the summer transfer window progresses. The 20-year-old midfielder has been on loan at Eredivisie club Vitesse Arnhem for the season and has enjoyed consistency on the pitch. However, moving back to Madrid may not bring in as many minutes as Odegaard could get at Vitesse.

In case you didn't know...

Odegaard has played consistently and brilliantly for Vitesse this season, racking up ten Man of the Match awards in only 33 appearances with 9 goals and 12 assists, and making it to the team of the year. However, the 20-year-old Norwegian may not be in Zinedine Zidane's plans for next season, even if Real Madrid may not be willing to let a player of his potential leave.

In recent times, due to his progress and development, a number of teams have been looking to sign the young midfielder including Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen.

The heart of the matter

Martin Odegaard has spoken about his future in a recent interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, and he has a couple of solutions in mind that include a summer sale with a buy-back clause.

"Real Madrid often sell [players] with a buy-back option included in the deal. That could be a solution. Another way forward is a loan, but it depends on how they feel about it, and the interest of other clubs. We need to see what Real Madrid want.
"I have to keep on getting minutes at a high level. This year has been good for me. I want to take the next step in my career, because I want to play even better."

Also speaking about the increased interest from Ajax, Odegaard said:

"I don't know if they are really interested, that is not my focus right now. My agent will inform me after the season. We need to see what Real Madrid want and make a joint decision."

What's next?

Odegaard will be looking forward to aiding Vitesse in their quest to win the Europa League playoffs and cement their slot in Europe for next season.
