Real Madrid’s problems in defense are well protracted. The only reliable central defender that the Blancos is Raphael Varane and even he started the season on the iffier side of things

As a result, it won’t be shocking to see the Galacticos make a move for a renowned defender in the summer. The Blancos are not known to sign defenders for big money but that could change if this report from Il Mattino is to be believed.

According to Italian outlet, Real Madrid and Barcelona have entered the race to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. He would, however, cost a world record fee as Napoli could demand as high as a whopping £100 million.

While there is no doubt that Koulibaly is one of the best defenders in the world, Real Madrid are unlikely to pay that much for someone in his late 20s because that would be against their new policy of signing younger stars for relatively lower prices.
