Real Madrid are putting together final preparations ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup tie against Al-Hilal on Wednesday, June 18 at the Hard Rock Stadium. Xabi Alonso will be eager to start the tournament with a win after taking charge of the team last month.

Meanwhile, the LaLiga giants are planning to tie Brahim Diaz down to a new deal. Elsewhere, a veteran defender has no desire to leave Los Blancos this summer.

On that note, let's look at the major Real Madrid transfer stories from June 17, 2025.

Real Madrid are planning to extend Brahim Diaz's stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Morocco international is under contract with the LaLiga giants until 2027, but he remains linked with an exit this summer.

Diaz registered six goals and seven assists from 52 games across competitions this season. The 25-year-old was in and out of the first team under former manager Carlo Ancelotti, but his future remains uncertain following the arrival of Xabi Alonso.

Bayer Leverkusen have been named as a possible destination in recent weeks. The Bundesliga giants are looking for a replacement for Florian Wirtz, who is apparently on his way to Liverpool.

Diaz has popped up on their radar, but it now appears that Real Madrid have him firmly in their plans. The LaLiga giants are locked in advanced talks to tie the Moroccan down to a new five-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2030. An agreement is now believed to be close.

David Alaba wants to stay

David Alaba has informed Xabi Alonso that he wants to stay at Real Madrid beyond this summer, according to Defensa Central. The Austrian defender's contract runs until 2026, and he reportedly pockets €13m per year in wages.

Alaba has struggled with injuries of late and managed just 14 appearances across competitions this season. It was previously believed that Los Blancos would cash in on him to remove his hefty salary from their wage bill.

However, the 32-year-old wants to stay and has pledged to help the LaLiga giants in any way possible. Real Madrid believe his experience will help the dressing room and are not planning to let him go either.

Arda Guler backed to succeed under Xabi Alonso

Former Turkey international Emre Belozoglu believes Arda Guler will be a success under Xavi Alonso. The 20-year-old is yet to show the form that compelled Real Madrid to prise him away from Fenerbahce in 2023.

Guler struggled for chances under former manager Carlo Ancelotti, registering five goals and nine assists from 43 games across competitions this season. The arrival of Alonso, though, could help him get his career back on track.

Speaking recently, as cited by Madrid Universal, Belozoglu was full of praise for his countryman.

“There aren’t many players with the gift and divine talent of Arda Guler. With Xabi Alonso, we’ll see a very different and more accomplished Arda Guler. He’ll improve. I know his character. He thrives on difficulties and on overcoming them. He likes to surf the toughest waves,” said Belozoglu.

Guler is under contract with Los Blancos until 2029.
