What is the story?

Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Christian Eriksen ahead of his potential move in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to recent reports from Metro and Spanish Outlet AS.

In case you didn’t know..

Christian Eriksen, 27, has been a world-class player for Spurs since he joined the club back in 2013. He has played a pivotal role in Spurs recent success and now seems to be in the prime of his career.

The Dane’s importance to the Premier League side can be seen through his statistics. In the last three seasons, Eriksen has not just been the club's most creative player, he has been the Premier League’s most creative player. He has created 239 goalscoring chances in Premier League since 2016, that puts him above the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne.

The heart of the matter

Christian Eriksen’s impressive form is generating quite a lot of interest from top European clubs. According to the reports, the Dane has reached a verbal agreement with Los Blancos and could be on the verge of joining the Spanish giants.

Zinedine Zidane has been very vocal about rebuilding the team this summer and acquiring Eriksen could be the perfect way to start the process.

Meanwhile, Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino, on the other hand, does not want the Danish talisman to leave. He stated this in a recent press conference;

"Christian Eriksen is such an important player for Tottenham and of course as a person or as a coach, you would like to have this type of player with you,"
"But in the end it is a negotiation and there are different parties that have different interests.
"It will be fantastic if he is going to be committed to the club for a long-term, and if not it is his right to do what he wants to do."

He added:

"What is going to happen between him and the club is not only in our hands."

Daniel Levy, Tottenham Chairman, can be tempted to sanction the deal, especially after the club's huge investment in their brand-new stadium. The Spurs have also failed to extend Eriksen’s contract that runs out in 2020.

What’s Ahead?

If Real pull this signing off, they will surely get a gem of a player. As for Eriksen, he must focus on facing AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend before the crucial Champions League second leg tie against Ajax next week.
