Real Madrid Uefa Champions League campaign will begin this month. Several of the big teams are releasing their squads which are then being displayed on UEFA’s website. But they goofed up when releasing the Los Blancos squad.

Fabio Contra who is still at Real Madrid if you were in any circumstance insure was listed as one of the 6 six strikers. The website admitted it as an administrative error but it is very surprising that the left back’s name found it’s way into that category.

Here is a screenshot of the list on UEFA”s website:

Madrid will try and become the first team to defend their crown in the history of the UEFA Champions League. The winners of the last three seasons have been Spanish side with Madrid winning two of those.

On both occasions, it was Atletico who they defeated in the final. Madrid have been placed in group F, which does not seem like a very straightforward group to qualify from. The likes of Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon are capable of pulling off an upset.

Los Blancos are still on of the favourites to lift the trophy despite not investing heavily in the transfer market this season. Alvaro Morata is their only notable signing, rejoining his boyhood club two seasons after leaving for Juventus.

Ronaldo return from injury is still not confirmed but he is edging ever closer to full fitness. Madrid youngster Marco Asensio has been filling in for the Portuguese during his absence and has impressed several with his performances.

Karim Benzema has also missed the opening two games but is set for a return soon. Real Madrid’s first opponent in the group stages is Ronaldo’s old club Sporting Lisbon followed by a fixture against Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

One very surprising inclusion is their Norwegian wunderkind, Martin Odegaard. The 17-year-old has only made appearance for the senior team but might be set to have more chances this season.

ZIdane’s attitude towards young players is encouraging to see. It’s a big difference when compared to the approach from other managers in seasons past.

Here is the complete squad list:
