The 2013-14 Premier League season is believed to be one of the most open in recent times with six teams aiming to finish top of the league. But the latest results suggest that Arsenal and Liverpool have a great chance to win the title this season. Here is why:

Change of managers

Top three clubs of last season Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all had new managers for the current campaign. The English champions’ former manager Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down from his post at the end of the last season after having a trophy laden career at Old Trafford. On a contrasting note, City and Chelsea have had their managers shown the exit door with Roberto Mancini and Rafael Benitez being replaced by Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho respectively.

Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers can take advantage of this and can guide their respective team to the glory without any pressure of settling down or adapting to the league conditions.

Summer signings

Even though Manchester City and Tottenham have spent huge sum of cash this summer, their signings are not performing to the expected level. Situation is far worse at Old Trafford with David Moyes signing only Marouane Fellaini in the window and failing to bring any big names to the club.

On the other hand, Arsenal’s and Liverpool’s signings are exceeding the expectations right now. Mathieu Flamini and Mesut Ozil are in superb form for the Gunners while Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure have been a revelation since their arrival at Anfield.

Form

Arsenal’s addition of Ozil has lifted everyone in the Gunners’ squad and their fans as Wenger looks to end his side’s eight year long trophy drought. The Emirates club lost the opening game of the season 3-1 to Aston Villa, despite taking an early lead.

However, since then, Wenger has seen his side bounce back and are unbeaten in their last six league fixtures, which includes five wins and a draw. Their recent run includes a home win against Spurs in their earlier fixtures. Arsenal are on top of the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have also enjoyed a great run in the league and with Luis Suarez returning from suspension have strengthened Rodgers’ side. They are second in the league table and are level on points with Arsenal and share same goal difference. However, the Gunners’ better goal ratio has seen them take the top spot.

Tottenham, Chelsea and City have all had mixed results and they are lacking consistency at the moment. Defending champions Manchester United are still in a recovery process after their disastrous start to the new campaign.

Considering all this, we can conclude that Arsenal and Liverpool can give other big spenders like Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham a run for their money this season.
