Report: Arsenal set to offer Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil new contracts

Alexis Sanchez celebrates his goal against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal are ready to sit down and offer Alexis Sanchez a new five-year deal that could make him the club’s top earner, according to Daily Mail. The contract renewal drive will see the Chilean overtake the current top-earner Mesut Ozil who is paid £140,00 per week in wages.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with the Gunners last season following his big-money arrival from Barcelona. Sanchez scored 25 goals in all competitions and helped his side retain the FA Cup last season.

The former Barcelona forward cost an initial fee of £30 million and he has proved to be an outstanding buy for manager Arsene Wenger. He has impressed everyone at the North London club including the staff and players with his attitude and commitment.

This was illustrated before the start of the season, when he reported back early from his vacation to make himself available for the club’s Premier League opener against West Ham on August 9, just 36 days after the Copa America final.

The Gunners are looking to tie down Sanchez along with playmaker Mesut Ozil now that Wenger have the necessary finances at his disposal to offer lucrative deals to his players. Alexis' current contract runs out in 2018, but it has been confirmed that the contract talks are likely to start during the Christmas period.

Arsenal keen to extend Ozil’s contract

Mesut Ozil was instrumental in Arsenal’s win over Manchester United this season.

Sanchez's teammate Ozil is currently the club's top earner on around £140,000 a week and the German international could also be offered a new deal. Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 for a club record fee of £42.4 million.

Although Ozil’s contract does not run out till 2018, Arsenal are keen to extend his contract before reaching its final two years. The 26-year-old, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, had an impressive end to last season and the Emirates faithful are finally satisfied with his performances now that he is doing it on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, the in-form Nacho Monreal is understood to have agreed on a new three-year contract with the club. The Spaniard’s impressive performances in the recent games have kept the likes of Kieran Gibbs on the bench. Meanwhile club captain Mikel Arteta is out of contract in the summer and Wenger will decide whether to offer the Spanish veteran an extension at the end of the season.
