Fresh from returning to the top of the Premier League table with their win at Aston Villa last night, Arsenal fans could be set for some more good news with the Daily Star reporting that defender Per Mertesacker and manager Arsene Wenger have both agreed new deals with the club.

The reports allege that the deals are done and dusted, but that the club are waiting to announce them in the hope that they can tie up the contract of right-back Bacary Sagna and release the news as a triple announcement.

Wenger has been at the club since 1996, but is out of contract in the summer. He has previously refused to discuss speculation over his future, and came under fire from supporters after the club’s opening day defeat to Aston Villa. However the doubters have since subsided due to the club’s blistering form in the first half of the Premier League season, and Wenger could be set to continue his reign at the Emirates.

He is reportedly likely to be joined by central defender Mertesacker. The German international is out of contract in the summer of 2015, but has reportedly agreed a two-year extension to his deal. This would keep the 29-year-old at the club until 2017.

A deal for Sagna may be more difficult to tie down. The club have been in talks with the defender for over a year, but remain gridlocked despite his contract expiring in the summer.
