Manchester United complete £12.9m signing of Matteo Darmian for from Torino. Manchester United have completed the signing of Torino right-back Matteo Darmian after both clubs agreed on a fee of £12.9m for the Italian right-back.

It is believed that the deal is worth £30,000 and the length of the contract is four years. United manager Louis van Gaal has been on the look out for a right-back after the club missed out on Barcelona's Brazilian defender Dani Alves who signed a contract extension at the Spanish club.

The Dutch manager turned his attention to Darmian and felt that the 25-year-old was a good option and fit the bill. The Italian full-back had featured for Italy in all the group matches of the 2014 World Cup. The defender has collected 13 caps for Italy so far.

Darmian who plays at right-back can also play in the central defensive role. Although his performances at the right-side of the defence had caught the eye of many and United managed to complete the signing.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had been using Antonio Valencia in the right-back position and had also used Rafael da Silva and Phil Jones in that position. At times, the Dutch manager had even employed Daley Blind in that position. Darmian's arrival would mean that the manager has managed to solve the right-back dilemma.

On signing the dotted line the 25-year-old said, “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true. To work with Louis van Gaal is an exciting prospect.”
